American Revolutionary

Way back in this post I highlighted some 1/32 scale figures picked up at a charity sale for 10p.

I had a go at painting one of these in an idle moment. This is one of the Accurate American War of Independence British. As you can see I have not exactly stuck to uniform guides and he is more like a French or American troop of the same era.

I Am Spartacus

The revolt of Spartacus and his gladiator army was probably also a revolt of slaves, poor farmers and non-Roman Italians who were fed up with second class status (according to Mary Beard's excellent SPQR which I am currently reading.)

These pictures are of the Linear-B Spartacus Uprising set and the Spartacus Defeat set.

They also make use of the Airfix landing strip as a base.

In Her Majesty's Name

I painted these guys more than a year ago and finally had my first game tonight. The Brixton Commune of Jeremiah Corblimey faced off against the posho scum of Lord Curr and it was fun.

Need to get a more to grips with the rules and as you can see my terrain is not much to look at.

In Her Majesty's Name is a Victorian steampunk skirmish game which (if you like) uses Northstar Figs .

Bombardtastic

I was lucky enough to purchase some surplus sprues from the marvellous Paul of Paul's Bods.

You should be seeing several of them in the months to come but to kick off we have the Mars Polish Siege Bombard.

I painted the cannon as bronze which I think worked quite well.

The figures had a lot of character and I have mixed them up with some from the related Polish field artillery.

Robin Hood and his Merry Decapitators

The Merry Men are Zvezda's peasants in revolt. The medieval period saw a number of peasant uprisings. Whilst few were successful they served to remind the Lords that their feudal serfs could not be taken for granted.

Amazons Prime

An interesting set from Dark Alliance covering the fictitious Hellenistic warrior women, the Amazons. Legend has it that they lived in the far-flung (to the Greeks) Scythian wilds.

Some of these figures could be adapted to be some of the nationalist archetypes of the 19th Century, such as Britannia, Marianne or Germania.

There are also mounted Amazons available.

The Roman Slave Market

Strelets Roman Transport 3.

In the dusty streets of Rome the captured Gauls finally halt. Dragged through the city in chains they now face being sold into slavery. The ones who fall beneath the whips may go no further. For the others, what awaits?
