Barbarism begins at home
The Old Barbarian is a resin 35mm model created by Luc Pinganaud for Black Sun Miniatures. It is also available in 75mm for the more ambitious. It came with both a hammer and axe. Every photo I have seen has used the hammer, but I used the axe.

Golden Boys
You can always rely on the Gold Cloaks, the armed force who guard King's Landing, capital city of Westeros in George RR Martin's 'Song of Ice and Fire'. You can always rely on them to be corrupt and useless that is.
Below we find a Dark Sword Gold Cloak guard.

Night's Watchman
No posts for a while, but plenty of painting. The Night's Watch are the sentinels of the Wall in George RR Martin's 'Song of Ice and Fire', better known as Game of Thrones. Below you will find the Dark Sword Miniatures Night's Watch Warrior with Spear.
Some more of these mini's to come.

Lothlorien with Dandelions
Caesar's Elves is a set I have sought for a long time and I was delighted when it was re-issued. Here they are in a timeless land of power, safe (except for the enormous cat creature sometimes seen.)

Russian Warrior Monks
My knowledge of this episode of Russian history is a bit thin, and I am not the only one who is a bit unsure about the origins of this set.
So best to put that to one side and enjoy the painting.
The robes flow nicely and are great for painting, though there is a small amount of flash. The figures could be assassins, wizards or tribesmen. Or warrior monks of course.
There is also an artillery set, which is tempting to get.

The Paths of the Dead
Some more Dark Alliance, this time Heavy Warriors of the Dead. Plenty opportunity to use some of Games Workshops rust, grime and verdigris effects. Some of these weapons are more likely to give you tetanus than cut your head off.

American Revolutionary
Way back in this post I highlighted some 1/32 scale figures picked up at a charity sale for 10p.
I had a go at painting one of these in an idle moment. This is one of the Accurate American War of Independence British. As you can see I have not exactly stuck to uniform guides and he is more like a French or American troop of the same era.

I Am Spartacus
The revolt of Spartacus and his gladiator army was probably also a revolt of slaves, poor farmers and non-Roman Italians who were fed up with second class status (according to Mary Beard's excellent SPQR which I am currently reading.)
These pictures are of the Linear-B Spartacus Uprising set and the Spartacus Defeat set.
They also make use of the Airfix landing strip as a base.
