This figure is Valdemar's Eastern European Scout. But here he is guarding the city walls. Seems like a cushy shift huh? What could go wrong?

Last Stand at Hastings

There is a lot about the Battle of Hastings that is now disputed. Where actually was it? Did Alfred in fact escape and live a jolly life? Probably not and it probably didn't look much like this either but never mind. Strelets Anglo-Saxons taking a last stand at Hastings.

Alfyn Crowkiller

Trying some bigger scales I had a crack at Alfyn Crowkiller one of the Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones minis from Dark Sword.

Enjoyed it, although I need more practice at the assembly phase. Any glue recommendations gratefully received!

Where on earth have I been? Lots of places actually. Anyway here are a few pics of Claymore 2014 where I spent lots of money.

Missionary Position

This unfortunate cleric seems to have met some unpleasant chaps. Norsemen? No these are Anglo-Saxons. Pagan diehards perhaps or just muggers? Figures are Strelets Anglo-Saxons. I suppose this would do for Monkths Month too!

Merlin

I got the King Arthurs's Romano British set from Hegemony Miniatures.

My favourite is Merlin here who paints up a treat.

Hegemony are in the early stages, in fact this was one of the first five sets. For this set they used a very soft rubbery plastic which was a challenge to paint. So this set is not for the absolute novice. I replaced Merlin's staff for a hard plastic spear with the end cut off (from a HaT set).

Hegemony say they are using harder plastic from now on and I'm sure they will go from strength to strength.


Below we have Merlin as Baelor the Blessed flanked by a couple of Targaryen guards. Yes, more Game of Thrones shenanigans. The guards are Caesar knights.

Name those figures

Name those figures. I think the lower two may be Call of Arms but the Kellogs one defies my internet research. Looks a bit like Prince Valiant. Any ideas? They are all 1/32ish.

They were 10 p each so no complaints from me!

EDIT: According to this the top 'kellogs' figure is 'Prince Swinging sword' so a Prince Valiant rip-off
The others are 'Accurate' American War of Independence British and the bottom two are Replicants confederates (also released by Marxmen and A Call to Arms). Thanks to the experts at Benno's!

Hate the Game, not the Flayer

I am far from the first to try to paint Game of Thrones in 1/72. That will not stop me however. To kick off we have those nasty flayers House Bolton. Their arms are a flayed man on pink and their words are 'Our Blades are Sharp' or 'Sausages for Tea' alternatively.The figures is a Caesar Medieval European Knight 13th Century.

Picked up some Strelets Ancient Germans today.

Also placed an order for these guys who look great. Nice to see an Arthurian set with Merlin et al and look forward to painting them.

Caesar Celts

For this batch of Caesar Celts I tried the 'Games Workshop' method for the first time, with a primer coat, base layer, lighter layer, wash and highlights. I was really pleased with the result, even if it does take a long time!
